Brown Sugar Awards 2019
We collaborated with Diverse Nights to bring our first ANNUAL award show with the sole purpose to celebrate, honour and award young black British women doing amazing things in their field on a grassroots level. The response and feedback online blew us away, women were so inspired to see their peers being celebrated and uplifted, so we are doing it AGAIN this year!!! Brown Sugar Wellness Day
Using the dynamic Effra Sace in Brixton, we hotsed a day with healthy snacks, explored fitness tips and tricks plus nutrition advice from the ultimate personal trainer Maria aka @ohmariafiit. We had qualified Nurse Yvette, the founder of askNurse @Yetty_Betty giving health tips for black women, pregnancy/ birthing advice for expecting and trying mothers, and answering any health questions you may have. We also had Ofome aka Glow Pot Mama @Theglowpot coming along with some skin care tips for all skin types! Nicoya aka @coydasilva a personal trainer gave out FREE health checks for all the ladies and advice on how to live a healthy lifestyle. We even had the NHS give blood come and let the girls discover their blood type and sign up to the Give Blood registry!
Catered for young black women wanting to gain advice, ask questions and network in the ultimate creative masterclass on how to enter the industry, how to navigate in the work place and how to utilisie your creative skills.
We had Ashleigh Jadee @ashleighjadeeeee (Director, producer and videographer), Mo @mochunks (Creative director/ producer and presenter) and Adi Alfa @adialfa86 (Actress, Screen writer).
They talked about their own experiences, where they are at now, how they got there and gave KEY skills and ideas you can take away and get started on!
Face beat 101
Many ladies joined us for the ultimate live face beat session with makeup artist Kemi Bello (@kemibartistry). She hosted a live make up tutorial for a clean full glam beat, full with live Q&A and inventory on all products used.
Focusing on skin care, skin prep, foundation application and sultry eyes for brown skin, the ladies watched and learned how to do this look as well as asking her for any tips surrounding their own make up routines!
